Kidney glomeruli. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a resin cast of glomeruli capillaries and the larger blood vessels supplying them with blood. The cells that usually surround the glomeruli have been removed to reveal the coiled capillaries. The function of the glomeruli is to filter waste products from the blood. After the reabsorption of certain substances elsewhere in the kidney, the liquid is transported to the bladder as urine. Magnification: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
