It is about 5.5kms from the Kodai Lake, very near to the Golf Club, and from which the entire Vaigai Dam project can be seen. The valley is very deep and dangerous. Kodaikanal: Located 120km away from Madurai, Kodaikanal is a beautiful hill station at an altitude of about 2133 mts, on the southern tip of upper Palani Hills in the western ghats. Delicious home made chocolate is a speciality of Kodaikanal, and is available in many shops in town. In 1845 Kodaikanal was exploited as a hill station in the Palani Hills at 7375 ft. The Palani Hills were first surveyed by British Lieutenant ward in 1821. In the Palani Hills there are tribes of two kinds, the Paliyans and the Puliyans. The Hill Station of Kodaikanal was created to serve the needs of the British and Europeans in India. Then in the 20th century, an indian elite visited Kodaikanal and purchased property and utilised the facilities of British and Americans and thus later become a mixture of different plural Societies.
